In addition to first wife Nicole Mitchell, Murphy dated former Spice Girl Melanie Brown from 2006 to 2007, and exchanged marital vows with Tracey Edmonds in 2008 in a “symbolic” ceremony that was never made legal. Back in the late 1980s, Murphy was linked to another big-voiced R&B superstar: the late Whitney Houston.

Soul singer Erykah Badu said Wednesday she holds no grudge against Malaysia’s government for barring her from performing after a photograph of her body art offended some Muslims.
More than 1,500 people had bought tickets to watch the Grammy-winning American singer at a Kuala Lumpur auditorium Wednesday, but Malaysia’s information minister announced on the eve of the concert that it could not proceed because a promotional photo of Badu with the Arabic word for Allah painted on her bare shoulders was “an insult to Islam.”
“It’s sad, because we traveled a long way,” Badu told a news conference. “But I’m totally understanding of (the minister’s) protection of the laws and its people. He doesn’t want anything to happen. I’m good with that.”
The photograph ignited criticism from some politicians and religious groups in Muslim-majority Malaysia after a newspaper published it Monday in a feature to promote Badu’s show. The daily has since apologized for what it called an “oversight” that led to the photo’s publication.
Badu, 41, said the photo was inspired by images from “The Holy Mountain,” a 1973 surrealist movie by Chilean-French filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky.
“I think art is often misunderstood in the realm of religion, and it’s OK,” she said. “In America, it’s a lot different. Art is also misunderstood but it is not such a harsh gesture to promote the names of God. I am learning and understanding about Islam in other countries more as we travel.”
Information Minister Rais Yatim said Malaysia’s Cabinet endorsed the ban Wednesday. Police feared that if the concert went ahead, it could cause “various situations that may lead to social excitement, and quarrels may break out due to religious sensitivities,” the national news agency, Bernama, quoted the minister as saying.
Public reaction to the concert ban has been divided. On Twitter, many Malaysians, including Muslims, accused the government of intolerance, but others praised authorities for being firm about defending religious principles.
Badu said she would “absolutely” welcome another chance to perform in Malaysia someday. She is scheduled to sing at a jazz festival this weekend in Jakarta, the capital of neighboring Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation.
Soul songstress Mary J. Blige candidly spoke about not only her feelings about Whitney Houston’s death, but about her own former drug demons as she sat in for Whoopie Goldberg on Tuesday’s ABC-TV’s talk show ‘The View.’
Blige, who is known for not holding her tongue when it comes to speaking her mind, reflected on the recent passing of Houston, who apparently had been a great influence in her life. Blige admitted that she never attends funerals because she was traumatized by them as a child but felt compelled to go to Houston’s because they were so close:
“This was really sad (funeral) because Whitney was everything to women like us,” she lamented.
Blige even divulged a conversation that she had with Houston about how important she was to the world. “I got a chance to express to [Whitney] what I felt about her and how I didn’t like seeing her like that.” Blige was referring to Houston’s much publicized battles with drug addiction.
The 41-year-old singer, songwriter has in the past, discussed in detail her struggles with cocaine and alcohol. Blige told her co-hosts, Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar, how she almost died from her drug habit. She discussed seeking out her drug supply from seedy places in the wee hours of the night. Blige was frank about her enablers, the leeches she surrounded herself with who continuously robbed her of her paychecks by keeping her high and drunk. The actress and fragrance entrepreneur who admitted, “I’ve never done crack,” said her self-destructive lifestyle was formed by the role models she had as a child. “In my family, as a child, all we saw was people getting drunk.”
Blige didn’t mince words when she stated, “I didn’t know what was going on in my business. I didn’t know my business. I didn’t know who was doing my business. I didn’t know what kind of money I had or if I had money. I was just a mess!”
Rehab was not an option for Blige, who instead says that she gave her life to God to help get her off drugs and liquor because she almost died. She pleaded with God because “He is real in my life,” she said. Blige begged God to get off the destructive path she was on, “I didn’t want to die,” she said. She also changed her environment and released those who were negative influences in her life. Blige also credits her husband of 8 years, Martin Kendu Issacs, who supported and challenged her to do the right thing. He kept her focused on the important tasks at hand.
The multi-talented Chris Brown
showed off another one of his skills in the kitchen. His girlfriend
Karrueche Tran showcased his fried chicken dinner he apparently
made her. Check out the yumminess below…
So much for all those rumors–which Kae says she’s “Stevie Wonder” too–that
Chris is thisclose to hooking back up with his ex Rihanna.
Karrueche reminded folks who’s his main chick…for now. And tweeted this below
saying “Yup.. Get mad!”
Apparently Chef Breezy chopped it up in the kitchen making fried chicken,
corn on the cob, mac and cheese, greens, green beans, and more. Now whether
they were at his mom’s house and Chris was simply turning over the chicken is
still a possibility. Especially since he tweeted the pic of himself in the
kitchen above saying:
I don’t know what the hell I’m doing! Hungry????
is one of those who is alarmed by and ’s musical reunion. The radio and TV personality is worried that their professional relationship might turn it into a romance one, so she pleads the Bajan singer not to go to that direction.
“Please don’t go back to him romantically speaking. The girl is too young to be giving a woman-beater a second chance,” Wendy sends her message when doing an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She additionally says, “Now, if they’re going to do music together, fine.”
Though she’s fine with Riri and Breezy’s musical collaboration, Wendy still thinks that it’s not a wise decision. She’s worried that the duet reunion could send a wrong message to young fans who may confuse it with the romantic one.
Earlier this month on “The Wendy Williams Show”, she discussed what she thought about Breezy and what he should do to rebuild his image. “Chris I think that more people would think more different of you, if you would stop acting so coo-coo,” so she suggested.
Don’t expect to see Frank Ocean perform “American Wedding” at Coachella in April. Eagles founder Don Henley has reportedly threatened the Odd Future singer with legal action if he performs the “Hotel California”-sampled song live.
Ocean’s version, which appears on his 2011 debut Nostalgia, Ultra, borrows from the Eagles’ 1977 classic. The sample was not cleared and the project was never commercially released.
“Don Henley is apparently intimidated by my rendition of hotel california,” revealed Ocean, who performed the song live during his brief tour last year.
But instead of getting upset over an impending lawsuit, he’s taking it as a compliment. “He threatened to sue if I perform it again. I think that’s fuckin awesome.”
Ocean has been cooking up “sonic goodies” for his first Def Jam release and will appear on Odd Future’s compilation The OF Tape Vol. 2, due March 20.
