The wife of former Colts cornerback Antonio Cromartie claimed that Cromartie’s decision to take a knee during the national anthem cost him his job with Indy.
Cromartie was released by the Colts, who have struggled on defense all season and consistently dealt with cornerback injuries and deficiencies.
The team signed Cromartie in August to a two-year deal but he struggled and was benched against the Jaguars early in the season before being released.
Cromartie’s wife alleged in an Instagram post that has since been removed that he was told “not to take a knee” but “went with his heart” and did it anyway and “that cost him job.”
Here’s what the quote on her Instagram post said:
You are nothing more than an entertainer. Just shut [up] and do what we say. You have no rights as along (sic) as you are working for me … there are other places for you to fight and stand for what you believe.
One things for sure I know my husband was told not to take a knee and he went with his heart and he took one. And that cost him his job … and clearly this statement backs that up. .. Just paid to put on a show.
