Back in June, The Black journalist who wrote the Chance The Rapper story which is the currently the cover of Ebony Magazine and a few more people called out Ebony. In a statement provided to NBC News for this piece, EBONY Media says they’re “fully committed to paying its writers and freelancers in their entirety and should have this issue resolved within the next 30 days.”
NBCBLK received this statement from @EBONYMag: They say they ‘should have this issue resolved within the next 30 days’.
Here’s an update on that…
It looks like Ebony Mag has failed to meet the deadline.
According to reports, Ebony, which is owned by Clear View Group (CVG), did not meet their own deadline to pay as much as $200,000 that’s owed to about 50 freelancers. CVG said they would pay the writers by the end of June, but it’s now July 12.
“This is completely unacceptable,” NWU President Larry Goldbetter said about the missed deadline. “We took them at their word, in good faith, despite some freelancers going more than a year without payment. Now, we move on to the next step.”
